Water treatment is essential for coffee brewing, as the quality of the water directly affects the taste and aroma of the coffee. Water makes up about 98% of a cup of coffee, and its mineral content can either enhance or mask the natural flavor notes of the coffee. Hard water with high calcium and magnesium content can give a bitter taste, while soft water can result in a flat and bland cup. In addition, impurities such as chlorine and other chemicals in the water can disrupt the flavor profile and leave an unpleasant aftertaste. Therefore, proper water treatment, which includes filtration and adjusting the mineral content, is essential for brewing a tasty and balanced cup of coffee.
