V60 Function 1: Cone shape
The V60's distinctive cone shape allows the layers of coffee grounds to be thicker than on the flat surface of a traditional trapezoidal drip stand. The cone shape allows hot water to flow towards the center, allowing it to remain in contact with the coffee grounds longer, ensuring proper extraction of flavor and aromatic components from the coffee grounds.
V60 Function 2: Spiral grooves
When the coffee is saturated, the high grooves do not prevent its expansion, and a layer of air is created between the paper and the drip rack wall. The twisted grooves prevent the paper and the drip rack from sticking together, allow air to flow through and allow the coffee to expand sufficiently. This promotes smooth extraction.
V60 Feature 3: One big hole
The V60 has one large hole in the bottom, as opposed to several smaller holes found in traditional trapezoidal drip stands, for example. This allows the tip of the filter paper to protrude through the hole, which in turn allows the hot water to perform extraction closer to a cloth filter as it is not restricted by the drip stand. Changing the pour speed allows you to brew coffee with your preferred flavor, stronger or lighter.
